The center said an MRI on his dislocated right shoulder showed a torn labrum, "very similar" to the injury that will sideline teammate Noah Welch until March. Murray was hurt during the host Panthers' 5-4 loss to Ottawa on Wednesday night after a fight with the Senators' Chris Neil. Analysis: The 25-year-old Murray was claimed off of waivers on Nov. 13 from Montreal. He is pointless in six games this season, and has eight goals and two assists in 105 career games.

The Canadiens will be responsible for half of the remainder of Murray's $625,000 salary for this season, and their share will count against the salary cap. Analysis: Murray, a physical, 6-foot-2, 210-pound left winger, dressed for only one game this season for Montreal. He missed six games due to a foot injury in October. He was acquired in September 2005 from the New York Rangers for forward Marcel Hossa. In 100 career NHL games, he has eight goals and two assists. Murray was placed on waivers last week and assigned to Hamilton of the AHL. He was waived Monday.

Analysis: The 25-year-old Murray, who made his season debut Tuesday in a shootout loss to Florida, played in 43 games for Montreal last season, contributing two goals and an assist. The left wing was selected in the third round by the New York Rangers in 2001, and re-signed a two-year contract with Montreal in June 2006.
