Johnson surges to first win at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) There's an aura about Bristol Motor Speedway, a track that drivers and fans love equally for its electric, throwback-style racing.

Jimmie Johnson never chalked it up as one of his favorites.

The four-time defending NASCAR champion could never get a handle on the .533-mile bullring, where he struggled far more than he ever succeeded.

Notebook: Knaus: Spoiler won’t spoil 48’s success

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Sporting News) - For those who think NASCAR's return to a blade spoiler on the Sprint Cup cars next weekend at Martinsville might deprive the Hendrick Motorsports teams of some of their edge, think again says Chad Knaus, crew chief for Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 Chevrolet.

Knaus views the change to a spoiler from a rear wing, which appeared in its last race in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, as more of an opportunity than a speed bump in the path of the No. 48 team. (MORE)
